arlo vs Etsy

arlo is a marketplace for local artists — discover makers in your city across France, and buy directly from the person who made the piece. Etsy is a global marketplace for handmade and vintage goods, open to sellers and buyers anywhere in the world. Both let independent makers sell online; the difference is what “local” means to each of them.

How arlo and Etsy differ

Etsy arlo
Where you can sell or buy Worldwide France, in multiple cities, with more added over time
Fees A listing fee per item, plus transaction and payment fees No listing fees — 0% commission during launch
How a sale happens Etsy handles checkout and payment Buyer and artist arrange payment and delivery directly
Meeting the artist Not typically part of the experience Often possible — many artists are nearby
Platform Web and app, any device iOS app only

What arlo doesn’t do

arlo has no shipping marketplace and no built-in payments — when you buy a piece, you and the artist arrange delivery and payment directly, the same way you would meeting them in person. It’s an iOS app only, with no Android or web version yet. And it’s live in France only — arlo is live in multiple cities across France, including Paris and Lyon, with more added over time — not the rest of the world the way Etsy is.

Which one is right for you

If you want to sell or buy from anywhere in the world, or you need Etsy’s built-in shipping and payment tools, Etsy is built for that. arlo is for people who want to buy from — or sell to — artists near them in France, and would rather talk directly than go through a storefront.
